Jane Iredale's undereye concealer
Active Light is an illuminating under-eye concealer that instantly brightens the complexion while providing skin care benefits. The revolutionary formula won't crease or crepe, because it contains no talc, leaving a smooth airbrushed finish to the skin.
The mineral particles in Active Light create a soft focus effect and manipulate how light is reflected from the skin, instantly camouflaging any signs of fatigue, covering darkness and concealing dark circles.
The pen and brush dispenser allow for easy and accurate application of the vitamin and anti-oxidant infused formula, which is designed to hydrate and smooth fine lines of the skin. Nourishing oils provide a base for vitamin K to lighten dark circles, cucumber extract for its anti-inflammatory and skin tightening properties and white tea extract to boost the skin's immune function.
Buckwheat wax is also found in the formula and is added to reduce puffiness. An independent in vivo test on 15 subjects showed that 80% of them had a reduction of 10% in puffiness around the eyes after applying a formulation with 1% Buckwheat twice daily for 28 days

A great new (or new to me) skin care line that a good friend introduced me to is Obagi Skin Care. What I love about their products is that they work super fast! And I mean fast. The price is not so attractive but… everything that I’ve used was outstanding. Better than anything else that I’ve come across so far.
My favorites are the Derm Clear – it clears your complexion and evens it out quickly. You’ll notice a difference in a matter of days. It is excellent. The Clenziderm is great too for clearing blemishes. My mother loves the CRX serum and NuDerm with a passion. They’re great for toning and removing age spots etc…
Obagi may not be for everyone but a little goes a very long way and…. The products are worth their price in that you will notice a change quite rapidly.

I haven't blogged, read blog, webbed, logged onto web in so long that I'd actually forgotten my own name, password, and log on info. What I'd never forgotten are so many of my web girlfriends and guyfriends. I've missed all of you and have thought about all of you more than you'd even believe. I've been really out of sorts for several months due to losing my best friend who was like a mother, sister, angel, and guardian to me.
Shortly after that my father was the victim of a violent crime and passed on as a result of that incident. Yep when it rains my goodness it really does pour. So I blanked out, retreated, and vegged out - you know- totally withdrew.
Two weeks ago I had a really freaky supernatural type of experience. Kind of like something you'd see in a movie such as Mothman, Ghost, or Dragonfly. Two nights later I had another experience and have had several since then. Anyway I won't go into them here or now but oddly just like I heard OUT LOUD when I woke up from one of the experiences one morning that everything would just "be ok" in about a week- it just all felt or seems ok now.
I'm sure that none of this makes any sense at all to many of you reading it and to some of you reading it it does make sense. I'm rambling now and I'm aware of that but I just want to say Hi to all of you, let you know what's what with me these days, and let you know that I've missed you, thought about you and still love makeup like my life depends on it and I'm still true to my philanthropic purpose in life. I've even become a regular volunteer at a food bank and love it more than I've loved anything- ok well as much as I love makeup- and that's a heck of a lot.
I know I know that this is a makeup blog and while my mind and eyes are still ever scouting sales on cosmetics, clothing, and skincare, I'm totally obsessed with another cause - charity.
During the current tough economic times, the number of people and their needs increase, please continue your generous giving to meet the needs of the children, the poor and the homeless.
A couple of my favorite charities are
Feed the Children. When you think that your donation of a mere $8.00 a month could sustain, feed, keep alive a child for 30 days it makes that $8.00 the best investment imaginable! $24.00 a month for 3 children. Have a national preference? They've got that covered too serving many nations around the world. This group really makes helping others not only affordable but leaves little reasons left to a girl as why she shouldn't help. Even if you don't want to obligate yourself to a monthly donation they accept and wisely utitlize one time gifts.
Feedthechildren.org
Another favorite is
Life Outreach.
Can you imagine your gift of $50.00 feeding 5 children for 4 months?

A few others that have been brought to my attention that are also recommended by other Vox members are:
World Vision - this is another charity that is very popular in South East Asia and they do many great relief works all over the world. http://www.worldvision.org/
St. Judes Research Hospital - This great organization gives treatment to children of cancer regardless of their ability to pay. No patient is turned away due to inability to cover the costs of treatment.

There is little assurance that coin or currency donations will actually go to the intended beneficiary. · Be cautious about giving to individual disaster victims that show up on covers of magazines or on television. Unpublicized victims may be more in need than publicized victims who are often flooded with gifts. · Be cautious about giving in response to a telemarketing call. SEND A CHECK, NOT GOODS CONSIDER GIVING TO CHARITIES NOT INVOLVED IN RELIEF EFFORTS The public's focus on Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is likely to divert much-needed funds away from charities not involved in Katrina relief efforts. AIP urges donors to consider giving to these charities because there are many others still in need outside of the Gulf Coast region. Source The American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP)
THE BEST WAY TO HELP VICTIMS OF HURRICANES KATRINA AND RITA Updated August 27, 2007 The American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP) announces its top-rated charities currently offering services to the victims of the 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the Southeast U.S. Hurricane Katrina devastated major cities along the Gulf coast, including New Orleans, Biloxi and Mobile, with strong winds up to 140 mph in some areas and flooding. Not long afterwards, Hurricane Rita severely damaged small coastal communities including Lake Charles and Holly Beach in Louisiana and Port Arthur and Beaumont in southeast Texas. Two years after the storms, recovery has been uneven and a great deal of work remains to be done. According to the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center, the population of Orleans parish is still less than 50% of what it was pre-Katrina, and the regional unemployment rate has actually increased in the past year. AIP, a leading charity watchdog that issues letter grade (A+ to F) ratings of nonprofit groups, identifies the following relief charities, which are providing aid to the victims. These charities have received an “A” or “B” grade based on the portion of their budget going to program services and their fundraising efficiency. Charities with a “*” have announced plans to provide aid to victims of Hurricane Rita. |
One of the best features of shopping on line with a smaller mineral cosmetic company is the option to purchase samples prior to investing in a full size of a product. The samples are generous and usually enough in quantity to provide several uses, whether it is foundation, eye shadow, or blush.
Several months ago I began making my own mineral make up and skin care and amassed quite a large quantity. Surprisingly what I thought would be at least a 3 year supply has been dwindled down to close to nothing. So recently I had to make a decision to either invest the time into replenishing the supply or shop again with favored companies. I immediately jumped on line and began ordering samples from my favorite companies from the past and have been ordering from newer ones that have recently opened.
I'll be posting reviews of various companies over the next few weeks but would like to begin with Bare Faced Minerals.
Several months ago myself and many other women who are lovers of mineral make up began formulating our own mineral make up. I actually as I said above made a very large amount and most of it is now in the hands of family and friends. Some of the women who learned this craft a few months back are now running businesses doing it or are soon to open a business doing it. One question that I'm commonly asked when contacted by someone interested in learning how to make their own mineral make up is " how do you make this or that by this or that company?" My reply is that those formulators have been doing this a lot longer than I have and are far more experienced and knowledgeable at this craft. They also have worked on their own unique recipes for quite some time and through trial and error have formulated a successful stand out from the crowd winner and that this is something that is closely held by them as a secret. I then have said that the best that we could do is to attempt to formulate a "generic" dupe by using the ingredients that they have posted and hope that our end results are similar to what we are attempting to duplicate.
One company, who in my opinion, creates mineral make up products that are unique and above the masses available is Bare Faced Minerals. This company's foundation is quite honestly the only foundation that I've encountered that not only requires very little (Velvet Plush) for full flawless coverage but once applied this perfect finish remains in tact perfectly for many many hours. The finish is also a very naturally beautiful one that requires no finishing powder. Needless to say I've never even attempted to duplicate any of Bare Faced Minerals products because I honestly believe that there is something that is done that is unique at some point in the processing stage of this company's formulating process. I say this because the glimmers, multi use products, and foundations are smoothly textured and have a finish and quality that I've not found equaled by any other mineral make up company.
My review of Bare Faced Minerals is in no way intended to be a slight towards any other mineral make up company, I'm simply stating that in my opinion, they produce a particularly excellent product. I still shop with and will continue to shop with many other mineral make up company's because there are so many great products out there made by so many great companies.
Yesterday morning when applying my foundation I remembered how superior this product, Bare Faced Minerals was. With 1/4 of the usual required amount of foundation my face was fully covered and this coverage looks amazingly natural and youthful. There were no problems during my busy work night with itching, there were no touch ups with finishing powder, and there was left at 5am the same flawless perfectly in tact foundation coverage that I started out with earlier that previous day.
So again today when it was decision time for which foundation to sample - I reached for the Bare Faced Minerals knowing that I'd be comfortable through out the day and that the initial coverage that it gave me this morning is the same basic coverage and look that I'd maintain regardless of how long my day lasted.
