Show us the best thing about where you live.
Submitted by Trippywalnut. The best thing about where I live is it's complete and total diversity that permeates every school district and neighborhood regardless of economic status, The great diversity of the city in which I live also extends to social settings which is quite rare in the U.S. Beautiful affordable housing, world class shopping, nightlife that doesn't end, excellent restaurants, concerts and theater parks galore, museums and an overall high quality of life for the majority of residents or at least the real tangible hope of bettering oneself in Atlanta all blend together to make this city one that I'm glad to call home.
A month or so ago I purchased a few items from Kiel's.
Two products that have given excellent results are the Kiel's Antioxidant Skin Preserver ($60.00) and the Overnight Biological Peel ($42.00)
The Antioxidant Skin Preserver is excellent for skin that is dry and or sun damaged. I tried it on my hair with excellent softening and moisturizing results. This is one of the best moisturizers for all around body care that I've used.
The Overnight Bio Peel gives results similar to 10% strength chemical peel. This product definitely fades scars and dark spots without the burn associated with chemical peels. Great product and the two combined gave me results that made them well worth the investment.
It contains vitamins A C and E as well as:
Panthenol is a penetrating moisturizer which absorbs into the skin and hair and is converted into Pantothenic Acid, a B complex vitamin. Assists skin care products in retaining water and also absorbs water from the air, aiding in skin and hair moisturization
It is useful for skin types with the following issues:
It contains:
|
Sodium Hyaluronate
SO-di-em HI-ah-loor'uh'nayt
Sodium Hyaluronate is the sodium salt of Hyaluronic Acid. It is used as a moisturizing agent, viscosifier and emulsifier. It forms a transparent film on the skin which has a soothing and lubricating action. It is a powerful humectant as it is capable of binding 1,800 times its own weight in water. See also: Hyaluronic Acid. |
|
Urea
yu-'rE-&
An enzyme activator naturally present in the surface layer of the skin (epidermis), Urea accelerates the natural process of cell renewal through the exfoliation of dead surface skin cells. The ingredient has a water binding effect in the top layers of the skin thus acting as a natural moisturizing agent in human skin. |
A friend of mine told me about an awesome online store that I just had to blog about. They hand create the most beautiful Swarovski Crystal items. The cell phone covers are alone worth visiting the site. I've captured a few pictures of their items from the website with the owner's permission but please just for the sake of viewing beauty visit the website. Here's a link to the cell phone covers and believe me just viewing through those alone is mouth watering!
http://icy-couture.com/crystal-faceplates.htm
They also create clutch and handbags, flip flops, laptop covers, mouse covers, license plate covers, pens, and other gorgeous items with tons of bling. On many items you have the option to create your own color scheme with crystals as well as other options to give that personal touch to your bling creation. Even a small key chain or pen with encrusted crystals would make a very lovely and unique gift.
Shipping is free with orders $90.00 and up.
My latest haul
Photographed on the tissue paper that they courteously wrap each order that I've received in and as if that weren't enough they place everything in a cute bag.
My latest haul that include a total of 2 items for me. (1 full foundation and 1 blush) A foundation in Oprah and a blush in Caribbean Queen Deep. I recently vacationed in Curacao and have tanned so I definitely need a darker foundation.
We also grabbed (for her) 4 foundation samples (Ingrid is her match) 2 blushers in Red Rock and Merlot.
She also got:
Sakura Jima eye liner cream
Ponce de Leon Lip Pot cream
and 6 eye shadows. Midnight in Cape Verde, Tailtrace, The Channel, Spice Island, Montezuma's Treaure, Finnish Waters.
We also picked up a few lip colors.
Forbidden City, St Croix, Iceland Blush, New Zealand Sun, Pause, Step Back, Manhattan, Bel Aire
I also bought her a few facial soaps that I love:
I ordered another Rhassoul & Moroccan Clay bar for myself and a Green Tea & Shea Butter Bar for her. She wanted the Green Tea and Shea Butter bar but when they arrived she wanted both!
Total Haul
This question was posed to me by a friend on Vox, "Hi Ranae and thank you for giving me something to blog about!" She asked me, "What mineral makeup companie's I'd tried" Oh my goodness I laughed and said to myself. I'll actually sit here for the time that it takes (knowing that it would be long) and write down and send to her every single company that I could remember without going through my stash as that would take far too long. So as best as memory serves me I have under my belt experience with: 63 companies! I know it's at least 63 because I remember the names of the companies below but 2 - Northern "something" and another whose brown eye shadow I still have and use from time to time well sadly their names escape me.
Anyway It all began with:)
BE. No it didn't. There was one that I tried in Ulta back in High School! Can't remember the name but from then it was (and not in this particular order)

Earthen Glow Minerals.
I know there's at least 4 or 5 more including the one before BE but I can't remember their names or find them on google. Who have you tried? I even got a really nasty fungal infection from one with no preservative in their glow radiant powder - be careful ladies! It has cornstarch in it and they don't use preservatives. This thing was dangerous, nasty, and potentially scarring for life. My BF ordered separately from me and got the same thing. Took shots, RX, and ointments to clear us up! Didn't stop us though. Still kept sampling. What about you? Who have you tried?
So after ordering over 100 eye shadows and with my next delivery I'll be at 25 blushes I would like to review Earthen Glow Minerals' Blushes, Eye Shadows, Glows, and other things that I think are must tries not only for their quality but also for their value pricing.
Here's a review from a makeup artist who agrees with some of EGM's eye shadows and blushes being MAC dupes. She loves them and their blushes too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hozL7Yc0KnI&feature=channel
If you've ever used and loved MAC eye
shadows and blushes then you'll find that many many of EGM's eye shadows and blushes are equivalent to MAC's in color, performance, and pigmentation depth! I've noticed this with at least 10 of my eye shadows and probably more and at least 8 blushes. They also have several NARS dupes but in my opinion with Earthen Glow MInerals' prices and personalized excellent customer service, as well as the natural content of their products they are definitely more than a must try for the bargain hunter but also a must try for anyone wanting premium quality, value priced, natural based cosmetics, skincare, or soap and bath and body.
Not to belabor the point but....Their eye shadows are totally long lasting and pigmented to the max. Many of the colors are MAC dupes and so are many of the blush and glow colors. I can't tell the difference in performance of them either.
The eye shadow primer base is excellent! I like the gel/cream liner personally - it isn't gel at all but a cream and I like it because it doesn't smudge but you do need two coats for a dark black look. Also, if you want the texture and deep color of mac fluidline or l'oreal this isn't it but it is a really nice natural cream liner with good color that doesn't smudge and uses all natural ingredients, few of them, and is non irritating to the eyes!
Here's a tutorial using the eye shadow base.

I've read many reviews on the lipglosses and thankfull I've bought some from every line that they carry. They carry over 50 probably close to 100. I will say that my favorites are the lip pots - they are like lipsticks in a pot! Very nice, long lasting and serious pigment and pop! I love Ponce de Leon which is a rich warm red. The mini lip wands are 2 varieties. One is a glaze and these are very very flavored and light in texture. Personally I love them and so has every young woman/girl that I've given them to. I think that they may appeal more to a younger group but me being somewhere out there age wise - I will say that I found them ok just not quite pigmented enough for my tastes. I do love applying ST Croix over lip liner or Bay Area lip pot! Really beautiful duo!
Next is the mini lip wands which I hope they create more of these because I have all 5 and absolutely love love love them. These really remind me of MAC's lip glass. The colors and texture are great and last long and look beautiful. I like how the prism/glitter looks on my lips so this works for me but if you want super smooth and sheer then in this line Lily or Cambridge may be where you'd like to look.
Their large lip wands are awesome and I hate that they are discontinuing online sales of these once sold out they will be available only through distributors and catalogue. These were and are the first lip glosses made by a company other than BE that actually delivered variety in finish, color, and packed a powerful punch while doing so. Peachtree, Pismo Beach, North Shore Drive and the list goes on all are my favorites so I'm buying several before they sell out online. If you love vibrant color and gloss with shimmer go for North Shore Drive, Twin Cities - you won't be disappointed.
The lip brush tubes are my second favorite. These babies are super liquid lipsticks that deliver long lasting super color easily and I love them. Favorite - Manhattan - red and Cascades - wine. Gorgeous!
The lip sqeezies- excellent!!!! Color - rich. Coverage - long lasting. Texture - smooth.
Finally looking good from head to toe with no reservations! I'm wearing EGMinerals' Cover Me in Antoinette. On my cheeks I have Essence blush. On my lips I have High Tea, a beautiful soft mid tone rose with smooth gloss and pure color payoff! Later I changed to FASHION AFFAIR which is a gorgeous intense fushia and compatable I think with any skin tone. But I really love love it for evening wear. On my eyelids I'l wearing Midnight over Cape Verde, a beautiful intense midnight blue eye shadow that definitley can double as a liner but for lining I'm using EGMINERAL's Black cream liner or Suka Jima. To add drama since this was at major party that will be televised on Real Atlanta's Housewives I added EGMINERAL'S Glow in Perfection!
Also I have to rave for EGminerals traditional body scrubs and butters. I bought all 4 sets and each comes with a free soap. I bough Italian Biscotti (yummy buttery vanilla cookie!) Season's Finest (Spicey apple, orange, buttrey vanilla and some other scents yummy) Holiday's Dessert Platter ( think of carrot cake , angel food, and I think either pumpkin or somehting with spice... just delicious and my husband adores all of these but my favorite is hands down GLAZE ( an absolutely scrumptious vanilla buttery light fruity and spice scent) can''t tell but it is to die for! This is my #1 and #2 is the other 3 tied! These scrubs super soften and the butters are pure shea whipped with oil. Nothing else other than frangrance. Nothing but love here.
EGMINERALS is based in ATLANTA, GEORGIA and is run by several women and a man with the intent to provide quality beauty enhancing products for the face and body in though skin care, cosmetics, and bath and body items.

I want to go home. It's after 6am in the morning and we've been closed now for several hours. The problem is that there is a big discrepancy in the drawers and typically we don't leave until we balance.
Balance can be anything within $50 depending on how busy we were but... tonight's discrepancy is rather large. A few hundred dollars. I'm practically tempted to just pull the cash out of my purse and add it into the pot but that won't solve anything. I really hate this because it's the 3rd time within less than 2 months that it's been a situation like this and... we're looking at 2 of the same people who have access to the very cash drawers that don't balance. Is it human error or... human error? I hate this.
More than missing the money and having to make a call about the missing money I hate trying to determine why the money is missing. I just want to go home and call it a day that will last for about 1 week. I wish my husband would just deal with this and count me out. He'll be in Florida this weekend and I'll be here stuck with either firing someone or watching someone like a hawk. I really hate this.
Do I wait until the weekend or call a duck a duck for whatever reason and give either one or both their walking papers? Blasted I really hate this because both of them are great people, need their incomes, and don't strike me as dishonest or incompetent.
